Italian railway contractor Generale Costruzioni Ferroviarie (GCF) has taken delivery of three Platform Basket self-propelled road-rail boom lifts, two 41ft RR14s and a 55ft RR19.
Two of the units were displayed on Platform Baskets' stand at the Innotrans exhibition in Berlin last week The RR14 has a maxiumum working height of 14.4 metres, and offers a maximum outreach of 9.3 metres with 160kg in the platform, or five metres with its maximum capacity of 400kg.
The larger RR19 has a working height of 18.7 metres, a 500kg platform capacity and a three section telescopic boom topped by an articulating jib. Both machines are powered by Stage V diesel, with a new hybrid option, and feature four wheel drive on road and rail wheels, and automatic superstructure levelling for work on tracks with up to 200mm of cant. In addition the jib and platform can be quickly replaced with a hoist converting the unit into a 1,000kg capacity crane.
The handover Carmelo Scillia of Platform Basket (L) and Carloalberto Molesini of CGF Platform Basket said: "The RR14 and RR19 are developed and manufactured specifically to meet the requirements of railway operators. Designed to combine mobility, operational versatility and safety, the machines can be equipped with different applications and configurations to suit a variety of tasks along railway infrastructure."
A 55ft RR19 can be converted into a crane
Based in Rome, GCF was founded in 1950 by Attilio and Luigi Rossi as a railway track works business and is now part of the Rossfin group. It carries out track construction and renewal, electrification and signalling work from 10 locations in Italy and nine international branches.
