Chile electrocution

A man died after coming into contact with overhead power lines while using an aerial work platform at a food processing plant in La Calera, near Valparaiso, northwest of Santiago, Chile.

The man, 38, was a supervisor/site manager for the specialist contractor Cementa, which is currently working at the Sopraval meat packing plant. The incident occurred on Tuesday September 22nd.

An investigation by the police and the on-site safety department found that the man used a truck mounted work platform” to assess the progress of the work, an according to one report chart the location of the power lines.

The shock caused him to fall from the platform, when the emergency services arrived they tried to resuscitate him but failed and he was declared dead at the scene.
Sopraval has confirmed that the man was employed by Cementa which is contracted to provide a range of services at the plant.

adding: "The reasons for this death are being investigated by the competent authorities and, as a company, we are providing all the requested information. We stand with his family and the Cementa company during this difficult time.”
