On Tuesday morning, a mobile self-erecting tower crane collapsed on a job site in Ipsach, a suburb of Biel/Bienne in the Swiss canton of Bern, with the jib coming down across a railway line and a road. Thankfully no one was injured in the incident.

It looks like the crane’s mast/tower buckled and folded over, dropping the jib across the building, railway and road. The crane is owned by prefabricated wood building manufacturer Zaugg, which runs an impressive of mobiles cranes.
A statement from the Bern cantonal police said: "On Tuesday morning, October 6, 2026, a construction crane collapsed at a building site in Ipsach and fell onto an adjacent building, a railway line, and a road. The railway line and the road are currently closed. Recovery operations are underway.. According to current information, no one was injured. The railway line and the main road are currently closed. Recovery operations are underway."

"In addition to various specialist units of the Bern cantonal police, members of the Biel professional fire brigade and the Bellmund-Port fire brigade were also deployed. The Bern cantonal police have launched an investigation into the cause of the accident."
