A crane inspector died last Thursday while while carrying out a scheduled inspection of a tower crane in Bangkok, Thailand.
The man later identified as Wasanan Thiankaew, 33, was carrying out a routine inspection of the luffing jib tower crane on a new hospital construction site in the suburb of Chaeng Watthana.

He was in the process of checking the hoist and luffing jib cables, while the crane was being operated, when he fell into the drums and became entangled between them and the cable. Apparently virtually severing his body.
The crane operator noticed something was wrong and stopped the crane, before rushing to see that had happened and to help. It was too late however, Thiankaew was trapped and was already fatally injured.
In spite of this he regained consciousness and managed to call his mother before secumbing to his injuries. He was declared dead at the scene.
The police are conducting an investigation into what happened.
