Palfinger power line sensors

Palfinger is offering a retrofittable electric field warning system for its truck mounted aerial work platforms. The system is aimed at companies that work in the vicinity of overhead power lines, such as in tree care, installing or repairing communication cables and highway maintenance.

Four sensors mounted on the platform measure the electric field strength around it and send signals to a central control unit, which compares the readings against a set warning threshold, and if the threshold is exceeded, a display unit provides an audible and visual alarm. Palfinger says the sensors are positioned so that they do not restrict the platform controls or movement in the basket, with function and electrical safety tested after installation.

Stefan Terkl, head of sales for Palfinger Platforms, said: "With this retrofit solution for e-field sensors, we are responding to a specific customer request, to help with improving safe working near overhead power lines. What matters is not only the technology itself but the whole concept of professional installation, mandatory instruction, standardised documentation and annual inspection. This gives our customers a reliable solution that can be integrated into existing Palfinger platforms and supported over the long term."
