The first in Africa

South African rental company Concord Cranes has taken delivery of a 450 tonne Liebherr LTM1400-6.1 All Terrain crane, the first of this model to arrive in Africa.
On its first job, a bridge in KwaZulu-Natal province

The six axle crane features a six section 70 metre main boom with Y-Guy Superlift, along with numerous lattice extensions and jib options, including a 45.5 metre luffing extension for a maximum tip height of around 120 metres or an 80.5 metre luffing jib for up to 140 metres. Since its arrival, it has worked on port, bridge and infrastructure projects, including a bridge job in KwaZulu-Natal, a coastal province in southeastern South Africa.

Concord Cranes chief executive, Wayne McCullagh said: “Key factors that influenced our purchasing decision included the crane’s advanced technical design and enhancements, such as the improved Y-guying system, VarioBallast and VarioBase, as well as its ease of operation.”

Based in Midrand, between Johannesburg and Pretoria, Concord Cranes runs a fleet of just over 180 cranes from 11 locations in South Africa, and two in Namibia, with capacities from eight to 800 tonnes. It also offers rigging services along with heavy and specialised transport.

Part of the international Bud group, the company was created when Elcon Crane Hire, Anglo V3 Crane Hire, Castle Crane Hire Namibia, Material Handling Logistics and Rent-A-Plant all came together to form Concord. Bud also owns Concord Access Solutions, which was previously Goscor Access Solutions - the Genie and Terex crane distributor.
