130 tonner for Belize Sugar

Belize Sugar Industries (BSI) has taken delivery of a refurbished 130 tonne Liebherr LTM 1130-5.1 All Terrain crane, the one of the first to arrive in the country.
The crane was shipped from Liebherr’s site in Veracruz, Mexico

The crane has a six section 60 metre main boom, plus a 10.8 to 19 metre bi-fold lattice swingaway extension, which can take two additional seven metre lattice extensions, for a maximum tip height of almost 96 metres. It will be used for maintenance, repair and assembly work at the company’s factory, which also generates electricity, around half of which is fed into the public grid.
The handover

Immer Torres of BSI said: “Our need for lifting capacity for maintenance and modernisation work within the plant has risen sharply. The 110 tonne crane, now 33 years old, which we had previously used for these tasks, was no longer able to fully meet the plant’s requirements. We will now be able to carry out maintenance work on the production plant, repair jobs and assembly work using a single crane. Previously, we regularly had to rent a crane in for these tasks in addition to our own crane.”

BSI was founded in 1963 and runs the only sugarcane mill in northern Belize, producing plantation white sugar, brown sugar, standard demerara and molasses from sugarcane. In total it employs 600 people
