FTSE Closes with the first annual increase in four years
Londons FTSE 100 index closed an hour ago almost 14% on the year, its first annual increase since 1999. With little trading on New Years eve it came close at one point to breaking through the 4,500 barrier but dropped to close the day at 4,476 13.6% up on the start of the year.
It also celebrated its longest uninterrupted rally in over six years
On the currency front the Euro surged to a record high against the dollar reaching 1.26 dollars to the Euro, well over 40 percent up on it's lows.
Sterling also surged to its highest level against the dollar in 11 years reaching 1.79 dollars to the pound.
One thing looks certain for the new year, it is going to be interesting!.
