Loader crane tips in Glasgow
We have reports and photographs of a loader crane tipped over in Glasgow earlier this week, due to… incorrectly set outriggers.
The truck and crane, belonging to national builders merchants – The Build Centre was unloading materials on a city centre site when it lost stability and tipped, coming to rest on its boom. As far as we know no one was injured although damage was done to a parked van and possibly to the load and what it landed on.

Outriggers out? doesn't look like it
The crane’s outriggers or legs were at best down only and not extended, significantly reducing its stability.

It looks as though the cranes outriggers were not extended
The crane was righted fairly easily and was able to drive away. If anyone has further details on what caused this accident we would be please to hear from them.
Vertikal Comment
How trained operators can make such an obvious mistake as not extending the machines legs is a mystery. Interlocks should help put an end to such incidents going forward. Thankfully the boom was low enough to prevent the truck form going over completely… that and the van.
