Man dies and another is injured in scaffold fall

The Health and Safety Executive were called to a jobsite in the Spinningfields area of Manchester yesterday after two men fell from a scaffold while working on a development of 400 apartments in Bridge street. One man who has been named as Christopher Heaton, 26, from St Helens dies from his injuries shortly after the fall, another 30-year-old man was taken to the Manchester Royal infirmary where he is being treated for serious head injuries.

No details on how the accident occurred or what might have caused it have been released. All work at the Westcott Homes site has been suspended while the Health and Safety Executive carries out an investigation.
