Powerline crane man fired

The crane driver who brought down overhead cables in Redbank, Brisbane earlier this month has been dismissed.

The man worked for Brisbane based Uplift Crane Hire which was working on the Origin Alliance upgrade of the Ipswich Motorway when the incident occurred. The company said that in light of the damage and the fact that the driver did not stop it has terminated his employment.

The driver could also face criminal or civil charges, a spokesman for the Brisbane police said that an investigation is ongoing.

The driver, who has not yet been named, initially denied responsibility for bringing the wires and a pole down when a bystander pointed out the damage. He later turned himself into police.
