UpRight may end production in USA

The Fresno Bee, the local newspaper for most UpRight employees at the company’s Madera, California, production plant, has been running an ongoing story this week claiming that the company will close the Madera plant this summer with the loss of over 100 jobs.

The Madera plant produces the full UpRight scissor and most of the company’s boom range. It is still the single source for all diesel scissors and booms. Trailer lifts, Alloy towers and the popular AB38 are built at a new plant in Dublin Ireland, which is also a second source for the mainstream UpRight electric scissor range.

The company has been carrying out some production work in Mexico on a trail basis, which has most likely been the source for this story. The company have neither confirmed nor denied the reports, stating that no decision has yet been taken but that Mexico was being considered for the production of certain models.

In addition to assembling many key models in the UpRight range, the Madera operation also houses product support and a design team, the new SB40/46 range launched at Bauma was developed there. In recent months the vast majority of European deliveries have been sourced from the company’s Dublin plant.
