Ranger to distribute Giraf Track

Chesterfield-based Ranger Equipment has been appointed the UK and Ireland distributor of Giraf Track crawler-mounted boom lift from Belgium manufacturer, TDL (Testcentrum De Lille nv).

Based on a Caterpillar excavator undercarriage and a Merlo 16.0m telescopic boom, the Giraf Track combines stability and all-terrain mobility. The unit has a range of work attachments and platforms up to 13 metres long and 750kg capacity using the machine’s 16.5 tonne weight and low centre of gravity to work without outriggers.

“The Giraf Track boasts a number of unique features in terms of slope levelling and platform capacity to meet niche applications and tasks beyond the scope of conventional telehandlers and platforms,” said Ranger managing director Steve Hadfield. “It will drive on practically any slope and works with unrestricted 360 degree operation on inclines of up to seven degrees (12 percent) as standard. The optional V blade allows it to work on gradients up to 19 degrees (34 percent).”

The Giraf Track also comes with a choice of customised baskets providing extra capacity, space and rotation to improve the efficiency of specific construction tasks. For horizontal panel cladding, there is a seven metre (extending to 13 metre) wide basket giving 500kg payload in addition to 250kg personnel capacity. This can be swiftly changed for a 2.5 metre long basket, complete with detachable overhead gallows and 500kg winch for vertical panel application. For glass and heavy panel installation, there is the option of a 2.5 metre long basket equipped with an independently rotating, telescopic overhead lorry crane with 950kg payload.

Other attachment options include pallet forks, winches, jibs and buckets, as well as more specialised attachments for underbridge inspection, rail and highways applications such as slope anchoring.

Giraf Track has a maximum lifting capacity of 3.8 tonnes, maximum horizontal outreach of 16.0 metres and maximum working height with basket of 17.8 metres (20 metres with basket on the jib). It is currently available as the GT580B model with standard base or the GT580-3C with driver cab, both operated by remote radio control.

“The Giraf Track fits Ranger’s product line-up perfectly, adding another specialist high tech, high spec solution to our access portfolio,” said Hadfield. “It takes us into applications where conventional access platforms have insufficient size and capacity, especially in the industrial, construction and utilities sectors.”

Ranger Equipment also distributes Teupen tracked spiderlifts, Aichi tracked and wheeled boom lifts and scissors, as well as PB Lifttechnik industrial scissors. The company is planning to show the Giraf Track at Vertikal Days in June.
