Bad practice in Malta

A truck mounted lift tipped over in Malta this weekend, largely due to poor outrigger set up, fortunately no one was injured.

The lift was set up in on the opposite side of the road to where it was working in Zefara Street, Masra. The reason was reportedly to allow traffic to pass and avoid a road closure. As part of this effort the outrigger beams were not extended and as a result as the lift telescoped it lost stability and tipped, with the boom coming to rest on a concrete mixer.

The tipped truck mount

We do not know if anyone was in the platform, or if it was being operated from the carrier? If someone was in the platform he either managed to stay in the platform with a harness or not? Or was thrown onto soft ground?

Either way it seems clear that the operator had very little training and no sense of safe operation.
