We have a convoy

A reader in central London, UK, spotted and took a video of at least four rented boo lifts driving in convoy up a busy Regent street in the dark last Monday. In the words of our correspondent: “Interesting practice on Regent Street on Monday which cannot be safe or legal.”

He is right these machines are not registered to use the public highway, and doing so while the road is open to cars, which it clearly is – carries its own risks. While it is a little far Fetched perhaps to put it into our Death Wishe series – we will. Here is the video- see what you think.

Regarding the travelling of MEWPs (Boom) on the public highway, this is what one south coast council stipulates.

A licence is required and issued from the County Council to place mobile lifting apparatus on a public highway. This includes private streets where the public have a right of access. We do not issue licences for private roads.

We will require 10 working days notice from the date of the application to the date you wish to use the mobile lifting apparatus.

The licence covers Mobile Elevated Work Platforms (MEWPS or Cherry Pickers) including mobile lifting equipment and truck mounted lifting equipment but excludes mobile and tower cranes.
