Whoops!

A four axle All Terrain crane overturned while setting up for a lift at a port terminal in Jacksonville, Florida earlier this week.

The crane, a relatively new Tadano ATF 100G-4 from the Sims crane rental fleet tipped when the fully retracted – almost horizontal main boom slewed over the side with the outriggers retracted. The operator was thankfully able to get the crane back on its wheels without further drama or intervention. No one was hurt, and any damage was minimal.

The crane was undamaged and no one was hurt

A spokesman for JaxPort said: “The truck crane belonged to a contractor working at the terminal and according to public safety officers, a safety mechanism failed during the setup, causing it to tip over. The operator was able to manoeuvre the truck back to its upright position without further incident. There were no injuries and no damage to the crane or truck.”

The picture shows an abundance of flat real estate surrounding the crane. Why would a competent operator even raise the boom out of the cradle without the outriggers out and down ?!

A safety mechanism failed during the setup ? Slewing brake not activated?

What's going on in the USA? Is it bad training? Or just bone idleness? Come on people mats down riggers out and down. Its not rocket science.

what was the operator thinking of , not setting out the rigger beams , only one way that crane was going , seems he was lucky nobody was seriously hurt
