Lithium ion option for Genie E-Drives

Genie has announced a new Lithium-ion battery option for its range of GS E-Drive slab electric scissor lifts.

Genie says that the new battery pack has been designed specifically for aerial work platforms and have been certified by the Underwriters Laboratory (UL) against fire, electric shock and explosion.

The new battery and charger

The zero-maintenance Genie Lithium-ion battery’s fully sealed IP67 housing protects it from water and dust contamination. Based on an extensive testing programme, it has an expected lifespan of around 10 years and comes with a five year warranty. The batteries are good for temperatures ranging between minus 29 to 49 degrees Celsius.

The new battery can cope with temperatures down to minus 29 degrees Centigrade

Recharge time from empty to full is just four hours, while partial top up charges will not affect battery performance, allowing top ups during breaks - ideal for two shift operations.
Launched in 2020, the Genie E-Drive scissors use direct electric wheel more drive with brushless, fully sealed AC drive motors and 70 percent fewer hydraulic hoses and fittings.

Product manager Christian Dube said: “Today’s electrified equipment doesn’t just reduce emissions. In many cases, it also performs better and requires less maintenance. That said, battery maintenance and replacement is still one of the biggest ongoing expenses for scissor lift owners. The Genie Lithium-ion battery reduces those costs by eliminating battery maintenance and replacement. Purposefully designed for use in work platforms, it is the only battery you’ll need for the normal life of your scissor lift.”

“When in use, electric machines with standard batteries usually generate enough heat within the battery to continue working. However, most people aren’t continuously lifting or driving, they are stopped and doing work, allowing the batteries to cool, as it gets colder, it delivers less energy, which means the operator needs to take a break and move the lift into a warmer environment. Our Lithium-ion batteries have built in heaters that maintain the proper temperature, even when the scissor lift is stationary. This allows the operator to work continuously, without taking a break to warm up the battery - a real productivity benefit in a cold environment.”

“Although this is the only battery a rental company will need while they own the machine, for additional peace of mind, owners can also use Genie LiftConnect telematics monitoring to track battery performance for a specific unit over time.”

A Genie GS 1932 E-Drive

The Lithium-ion battery option is available globally on all Genie GS E-Drive slab scissor lifts, except for the GS-1432m and GS-1932m micro scissor lifts along with the GS-4046 and GS-4655 slab scissor lifts.
