Movex plans wider dealer network

The leading Spanish vehicle mounted lift manufacturer, Talleres Velilla, which produces a range of van, Land Rover and truck mounted lifts under the Movex brand, is looking to expand its dealer network into northern Europe and given its product range, has eyes on the UK and Ireland.

The company is long established, having celebrated its 60th anniversary already. It was founded in 1949 in Canovellas, near Barcelona, as a machinery repair and service business, but in 1960 started manufacturing machinery for the ceramics industry.

Products included hydraulic presses for pottery, refractory bricks and tiles.
In 1971, needing to diversify into new areas, it started to manufacture telescopic truck cranes up to 25 tonnes capacity and with booms of up to 32 metres, along with tow trucks and similar equipment.

Movex produces three Land Rover models with two or three section booms

The Movex brand was added in 1976, when the company introduced a new range of self-propelled pick and carry cranes. Truck mounted aerial work platforms came along four years later in 1980 with the first units, a range of three models with working heights of 10, 13 and 21 metres, designed specifically for municipalities and utilities which remains its strength today.

The Movex Land Rover models include storage chests for equipment

A special model for fire brigades with a platform mounted water monitor and rescue equipment was also introduced.

Since 1996 the company has used TÜV Germany to certify all of its machines and the range has increased to include a very handy looking Land Rover mounted telescopic boom line, currently the company’s top selling product range, with working heights from 10.5 to 12 metres and outreach of up to seven metres. Other products include van mounted telescopic booms and some classic truck mounts up to 16 metres and a fully electric 12 metre truck telescopic mount- the 120H- Hybrid.

Vertikal Comment

Talleres Velilla has a good reputation in the markets where it is well known and established and has benefited from a strong position in its home and market. With the Spanish market now suffering more than any other in Europe, it clearly needs to expand elsewhere and develop its export spread from those countries where it is already known.

It is surprising, given its product mix that is has not targeted the UK before now, although given the growing demand for off-road aerial lifts for utilities and the shrinking presence of some existing manufacturers in the sector, perhaps its timing is not so bad and there room for a new experienced participant?
