Mammoet launches new PTCs

Mammoet has unveiled its new PTC super heavy lift cranes at an open day in Zeeland, the Netherlands today.

The new generation PTCs offer capacities of between 140 and 200 thousand tonne/metres, Key-features of the cranes include a relatively small footprint for their capacity and reach of 45 or 55 metres, depending on the capacity, they can slew a full 360 degrees in just 15 minutes, the winches can lift loads up to 3,200 tons to a height of 120 metres in just 12 minutes and their containerised design means that the cranes can be mobilised and erected anywhere in the world within three to six weeks.

Mammoet also says that its ‘unique’ nonstop capacity interpolation principle means that the load charts for different main boom angles may be interpolated, helping lift planner make the best use of the crane’s capacity when planning a heavy lift.

Critical drives, control systems and safety equipment are all duplicated for increased reliability. The hydraulic power packs which drive all the equipment are fuel-efficient and meet strict emission requirements and most of the ballast can be sourced locally to reduce the need for transport.

The cranes were designed in-house by the company and will be used for large construction projects, such as oil refineries, power stations, offshore) etc…
The design was fully reviewed and approved by Lloyds’ Register.

According to Mammoet the cranes can operate in both arctic and desert climates without loss of capacity and can withstand high winds, including hurricanes and minor earthquakes.

Reporting staff from Vertikal.Net attended today’s event and will report in more detail on their return and in the next issue of Cranes & Access and Kran & Bühne.
