Trailer lift takes off

A man in New Zealand had a lucky escape this morning after a trailer lift became unhitched and came through the windscreen of his van.

The trailer, a locally built Snorkel, was being towed by a ute (pick-up truck) belonging to Hastings District Council, when the tow hitch came away and the safety chain broke. The lift swerved accross the road and struck the van travelling in the opposite direction, crashing through its windscreen.

Fire-fighters had to cut the man, 57, out of the van and he was taken to hospital by ambulance, but his injuries which are to his legs are said not to be too serious. We have no other news on his condition.
