Sterling Crane to acquire Freo

Canadian crane rental company Sterling crane of Edmonton, Alberta, has agreed the acquisition of Freo Cranes of Henderson, Western Australia.

The company runs a fleet of between 160 and 200 cranes topped out by a 750 tonne Manitowoc crawler and three 500 tonne Liebherr LTM1500s, from its head office and six other locations in Western Australia, plus two in Queensland that trade under the Global Cranes brand.

The business, which also includes a construction division with general equipment rental including telehandlers and heavy transport, was founded in 1974 and is managed by Tony Canci, the son of the founder. It is understood that he and the management team will remain with the business.

No details of the deal have yet been disclosed.

Sterling Crane is managed by Dave Snyder and is owned by Marmon Construction Services which is a Berkshire Hathaway company. It operates a fleet of around 600 cranes the largest of which is a 1,250 tonne Demag CC8800. The company, which was founded in 1954, has 23 locations throughout Canada and the U.S.A plus three locations in India where it trades as Astha Sterling Crane.
