JCB to build new plant in China

JCB announced at Conexpo today that it is to build a production plant in China, the company has acquired land in Pudong, south of Shanghai, which will become JCB’s Chinese manufacturing headquarters. Outline planning permission for the factory has been granted but a decision on which products will be manufactured there has not yet been made.

JCB also announced that it is expanding in India, where manufacturing started at its Delhi plant in 1979. The company has constructed a second factory in Pune, which is 1,000 miles from the Delhi plant and positioned close to the port of Mumbai. The £16 million facility will produce fabricated and machined components.

At the press conference, JCB Chairman Sir Anthony Bamford also announced that his son Jo Bamford had joined the company as a Director of the Groundcare Division
