Brood Hiab fetches €11,750

The unique Hiab loader crane painted by Herman Brood in 2000 has raised €11,750 at auction all for charity. The loader crane, painted by the famous Dutch artist was auctioned at this year’s RAI exhibition in Amsterdam to support an independent humanitarian organisation called War Child.

Amsterdam based waste management company, Afvalservice West, eventually outbid others for the Hiab 102 loader crane. The company intends to display the crane at Stedelijk Museum in the city of Amsterdam.

Paulo Cardoso, marketing manager of Cargotec Netherlands, said: “The Herman Brood Hiab 102 is going home to the city where it was created – Amsterdam. We could not have wished for a better location for this crane and a whopping €11,750 will be transferred to War Child."

Herman Brood's daughter Lola Brood


The multi-talented musician, artist and painter died in 2001 at the age of 54, but his daughter Lola Brood was present during the auction and said: “It has always been my father's wish to have his work on display in one of Amsterdam's finest museums, now it appears to have become a reality."
