The UK’s first GMK130-1 arrives
The first example of the new Grove GMK5130-1, 130 tonne five axle All-Terrain cranes to be delivered in the UK has been delivered to midlands based crane hire company Dewsbury & Proud.
One of the first jobs for the new GMK5130-1 was the installation of a pressurized gas container in the tight confines of a soft-drink plant near Kegworth. The 15 metre long, three metre diameter gas container weighed 22 tonnes and was delivered direct from France on a special trailer.

Working with 27 metres of main boom, the GMK5130-1 easily handled the tank at a 12 metre radius for the final positioning.
A 55 tonne Grove GMK 3055 All-Terrain crane was used to assist in the tandem lift.
“This new five-axle Grove is a true state-of-the-art 130-tonner, with a very strong load-chart,” he said. “It has a full 60 metre main boom with a 26 metre fly jib, yet is compact, making it very versatile. It can travel and set-up unassisted with a basic counterweight of 23 tonnes making it competitive with cranes above and below its capacity – it is the ultimate big taxi crane, and in a class of its own.” said Tim Proud, director of Dewsbury and Proud.
