MEC extends hybrid scissors range

MEC has announced a range of Hybrid - Diesel/Electric - power packs for its compact Rough Terrain scissor lifts and Speed Levels.

The company introduced a hybrid system on its Crossover Electric 4wd Series in December 2012 and has now carried the option over to all of its electric powered 4x4 scissor lifts, including the: 32ft 3259ERT Crossover, 26ft 2684ERT Speed Level, 30ft 3084ERT Speed Level and 4069ERT Crossover models.

The option utilises an on-board Smart generator that has three different modes for self- charging the machines:

1. Automatic Mode: By selecting the ‘Auto Mode’ the machine constantly monitors the batteries state of charge, when the batteries fall beneath a pre-determined level the generator automatically turns on and charges the batteries while the machine is in use, once the batteries are fully charged the generator shuts off.

2. Manual Mode: In ‘Manual Mode’ the generator turns on, remains on and provides power to either the batteries or the Power to Platform outlets.

3. Manual Self-Charging Mode: In environments where emissions or noise are unacceptable the operator can move the machine outside, turn on the generator manually, remove the key to prevent unauthorised use and the generator will charge the batteries shutting off once the batteries are fully charged.

The MEC Hybrid system for its 4x4 electric drive scissor lifts

Jim Tolle director of international markets, said: “Our electric powered Rough Terrain four wheel drive scissor series have been extremely popular, as a result of our exclusive ‘MEC Quad-Trax 4wd’ drive system, performance is almost equal to that of our diesel powered models, battery duty cycle is at least a full day of use, and the elimination of both noise and emissions, has made them a big success for MEC. The only downfall has been in some cases the limited areas for charging of the machine. Our ‘Hy-Brid Diesel/Electric Power Option’ means that jobsites without supplied electricity are no longer a problem."

"By using the latest technology we have taken advantage of a Smart charging system which is very similar to today’s Hy-Brid automobiles. Our customers also have the option of transferring the ‘Hy-Brid Diesel/Electric Power Option’ from machine to machine as needed, as MEC offers a ‘Hybrid Diesel/Electric Smart Kit, without the GenSet, This is a ‘Plug-n-Play’ optional feature for all of MEC’s Electric Powered Rough Terrain scissors”.
