Palfinger Sany deal for Ethiopia

Palfinger Sany Mobile Cranes has won a $6.4 million contract to supply cranes and concrete equipment to Turkish construction company Yapi Merkezi for the new 389 kilometre Awash to Weldia railway line in Ethiopia.

The deal includes a range of Palfinger Sany truck, Rough Terrain and knuckle-boom loader cranes, as well as Sany concrete pumps and concrete mixers. The fact that Sany Plafinger could deliver both cranes and concrete equipment was cited as a distinct advantage by Yapi Merkezi.

The $1.7 billion Awash-Weldia project is part of an investment programme by Ethiopian Railway Corporation to connect northern Ethiopia with central regions, in a bid to drive economic growth in the country. It is one part of a plan to add 2.400 kilometres of new railway lines aimed at completing a comprehensive network.

Yapi Merkezi has experience in this area, having worked on the Dubai Metro Project, the Casablanca tramway or the Ankara-Konya high-speed railway.
