Occurrences of people climbing tower cranes have become a regular hazard for city construction sites, but on Saturday night/Sunday morning the man, 21, climbed the boom and jib the lattice truck crane, and spent hours swinging, sitting and performing all manner of acrobatic acts from the jib and the main boom, before climbing down as police climbed the boom towards him.
The incident occurred on a job site in the suburb of Woolloongabba and continued towards midday on Sunday, before police finally decided to end it.

The man has been charged with possessing MDA, an ecstacy type amphetamine that makes users believe that they have superhuman strength. The man was treated by paramedics and taken to hospital. He was also charged with possessing MDA, trespass, being involved in an unregulated high risk activity, public nuisance, wilful damage and obstructing police. He is due to appear at Brisbane Magistrates Court on January 21.
For the avid crane spotters the unit is, we understand, a 70 tonne P&H 670TC lattice boom truck owned by Williams Cranes of Pinkenba, Brisbane.
