Terex acquires CVS terminal tractors
Terex Port Services has acquired the assets of the CVS Ferrari terminal tractor product line from Manitex.
The machines will in future be manufactured at the Terex facility in Lentigione, Italy, which currently manufactures empty and full container handlers in addition to heavy-load forklift trucks. CVS will complete current supply contracts with its existing customers, while Terex is ‘fast-tracking’ the integration of the new products into its sales, R&D, production and service activities.
Products include the 4X2 FYT 230 terminal tractors for container transport from quay to stackyard and the 4x4 FR 270 for RoRo operations,

Terex Port Solutions managing director Klaus Peter Hoffmann said: “We plan to further develop the machines in a customer-driven manner, open up applications and offer demand-appropriate options and variants. We will also quickly equip the machines with engines that comply with the EPA Tier 4f (EU Stage IV) emissions standard, in order to be better equipped for the business in Europe and North America.”
“With our recently extended portfolio, we are even better equipped to manage all terminal infrastructures and processes in a professional and integrated manner. With the addition of terminal tractors, we now have in our range a vehicle more geared to environments characterized by RoRo.”
Terex Port president Steve Filipov added: “Adding terminal tractors enables us to enter this mature market and offer an even greater range of handling equipment solutions – simplifying business for our customers by trimming the number of manufacturers they deal with to get the equipment they need. By acquiring this product line from another premium manufacturer, it also avoids adding unnecessary new capacity to the global manufacture of these machines.”
“With such a large market, it is logical that we want to offer these products. Rubber Tyred Gantry cranes have long been a central component of our portfolio, and these robust terminal tractors are perfect companions.
Vertikal Comment
This is a small but interesting move, it does help fill a gap in the Terex Port Solutions product line – a gap that also exists in the KoneCranes product line, even though both companies produce Rubber Tyred Gantry cranes which are mostly used in conjunction with tractors like these.
While you cannot read too much into such a move in terms of the Terex Kone or Terex Zoomlion discussions, it does make good sense for Terex, and is yet another deal between Manitex and Terex, which jointly hold the ASV tracked equipment business, control of which was transferred to Manitex at the start of 2015.
