The crane was being dismantled at the time of the accident by Crane Plant Services, when the counterweight and then jib collapsed.
The three who died were named as R Phokanoka, 47, who was employed by Grinaker, and W L. van Vuuren, 48, and M Jooste, 22, who were employees of Crane Plant Services.
The companies, made a joint statement, saying “The exact cause of the incident is unknown and a full investigation is under way to determine the cause. Grinaker LTA and Crane and Plant Services offer their condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in this incident.”
