Mecalac acquires Terex Construction UK

France's Mecalac has agreed the acquisition of the Terex construction operations in the UK, which includes backhoe loaders, site dumpers and compaction equipment, including the Fermec and Benford brands.

The transaction is one of the last remaining elements of the Terex Construction division and should be completed during the first quarter 2017. Few details have been released so far, but we assume that the division’s Coventry plant – which has also produced Genie scissor lifts – will be included. Neither party has confirmed the price paid.

Mecalac chief executive Henri Marchetta said: “This acquisition follows our growth strategy, based on excellence, on the broadening of our range of equipment for urban construction sites, and on international distribution deployment. Our intent is to foster the sharing of expertise, the development of industrial and sales synergies, and to encourage cultural exchanges along with sharing our fundamental values among the teams.”

The Terex ownership of the old Benford company has been an unmitigated disaster. They have systematically destroyed a great company and run it down to a shadow of its former self. Genie scissor production is no-longer on the site in Coventry.
Genius moves such as relocating the parts division of a company that sells 75% of its product to the UK & Irish market to Germany spelt the beginning of the end for this division.
