A crane boom falls in Charlotte
The 60 metre boom of a crawler crane collapsed into third street in Charlotte, North Carolina this evening...
Early reports are sketchy, but it seems that a crane working on a multi storey parking lot was lifting a large steel beam when something gave way. The crane dropped its boom onto the partially built building, causing it to buckle and fall into third street on the far side of the building.
The boom tip narrowly missed a car waiting at the traffic lights.
The crane is owned and operated by Graham, North Carolina, based Buckner Companies, a major crane and steel erection company.
