Work starts on new Manitou plant

Construction has now started on Manitou’s new aerial work platform production facility in Candé, western France.

The traditional laying of the first stone was carried out by chief executive Michel Denis and chairman Jacqueline Himsworth with a number of local dignitaries in attendance. The new facility is located three kilometres from Manitou’s existing location in Candé. The facility will add significant production capacity, to cover increased demand in Europe and in particular the United States, following the launch of the Manitou aerial lift range at the end of last year.

The company is currently building some of its platforms in pockets of space at its other plants, such as the Ancenis telehandler plant and announced the new plant during the fourth quarter in preparation for the launch.

Candé operations director Sylvain André said: “The aerial work platform market constitutes a significant lever for growth for the group as more rental companies enter the access market. This investment will equip us with a modern factory dedicated to Rough Terrain platforms, while the existing site will focus on industrial platforms. The location allows us to retain our experienced staff who are all based in the area.”
