Nationwide charity refurbishment

Apprentices at UK rental company Nationwide Platforms are refurbishing two scissor lifts in honour of the late Roger Wickens - see Roger Wickens 1957 - 2019.

The apprentices are competing for the Roger Wickens Engineering Award by refurbish the two machines at UK Platforms’ depot in Telford, encouraging sustainability, while honouring Wickens’ enthusiasm for the powered access industry.

The completed platforms will be branded in full Cancer Research colours. A judging panel of senior Nationwide employees, representatives from Genie and Skyjack, and Wickens’ wife Anne will evaluate the workmanship on each completed machine, with the winning team receiving the Roger Wickens Engineering Award. The winning machine will then go into the company’s rental fleet with 100 percent of the revenue generated over the next 12 months being donated to Cancer Research in Wickens’ memory.

The two scissor lifts being refurbished



UPDATE

The two teams revealed their scissor lifts following five days of hard work, and the final judging was so close that there was only one point in it, with Team Wickens coming out on top over Team Roger. It has been decided that both scissor lifts will join the Nationwide Platforms fleet.
