Crane related fatality in Singapore

A man died on a site in Singapore after a crawler crane on foundation work overturned a pallet of gas cylinders onto him.

The man, 34, was an Indian national employed by Guan Chuan Engineering Construction, and was part of a team working alongside the crane installing piles on January 8th. As the crane slewed, its counterweight struck the pallet load of gas cylinders causing them to fall onto the deceased, who suffered traumatic cardiac arrest and was pronounced dead at the scene. The Ministry of Manpower closed down the site, which is owned by Zhengda Corporation, while it conducted an investigation.

Having started investigations on three job site fatalities so far in 2020, the Ministry of Manpower has launched a two month enforcement operation and has already carried out more than 230 inspections, whilst issuing stop work orders on four sites, where it considered the hazards posed imminent danger to those working there.
