UK based rental company Clements Plant & Access Hire has promoted works manager Paul Dixon to the newly created position of operations director.

Dixon joined the company from school in 1974 and went through a Heavy Goods Vehicle (HGV) apprenticeship, before working as an HGV mechanic, plant fitter, mobile service engineer and since 2007 the company's works manager. In addition he is also a qualified HGV driver and holds a valid PAL card.

Managing director, Adrian Hutchinson, said: “Paul is an invaluable member of the team. He has been with the business for 46 years and we are very proud of this effort and his promotion is long overdue.”

Chairman Jim Longstaff, added: “In these uncertain times we have massively benefited from Paul’s work ethic and commitment and during the Covid-19 lockdown he volunteered to drive an HGV as part of our skeleton team to keep our key clients going, which is testament to the man and his directorship is richly deserved.”

The management! (L-R) Adrian Hutchinson, Paul Dixon and Jim Longstaff

Dixon said: “I love coming to work. No two days are the same. I have seen huge change over the years which you just take it in your stride. I was blown away when Jim and Adrian invited me to be a director and I hope that I can continue to repay their faith in me. I aim to carry on for as long as possible and hope to achieve 50 years with the business.”

The aim of the promotion is to allow Longstaff to step back from the day to day running of the business and look at opportunities to grow the Clements business at a time when competitors are downsizing their teams. He says that he is “open to speculative contact from individuals who know they can assist in growing the company by bringing something positive to the table.”
