Jekko milestone

Jekko has produced its 2,000th crane since developing its first mini crane prototype 20 years ago.

The 2,000th unit off the line is one of the company’s new five tonne SPX650 telescopic spider cranes, which will be delivered to the company’s newly appointed distributor for France, ATN Platforms.

The company's new SPX650 is the 2,000th crane to be produced

Founded in 1972, Jekko’s parent company Ormet produced the prototype of its first crane - the SLM200 - for a glass installation firm in 2000. Basic in design, the unit was a combination of a small Maxilift loader crane mounted on a steel trolley type chassis with four outriggers and casters.

The SLM200 was the company's first prototype mini crane

A year later the company introduced the SLM600 for the same customer which featured a larger Maxilift loader crane and an updated chassis. It wasn’t until 2002 however that the company designed its first tracked model - the SLM650 - which has since become synonymous with the company’s range over the past 20 years.

Two years later it introduced its first tracked crane with its SLM650

The SPX650 will have its first public outing at the JDL exhibition in Beaune next week following its ‘virtual’ launch in May - (see: Jekko reveals the SPX650).

The company said: “Not only will the SPX650 be on display for the first time, but it is also the 2,000th crane produced by the company, exactly 20 years after the first unit. Following the exhibition, the crane will be delivered to ATN Platforms, to seal a relationship which has already started on the right foot.”
