Manitou moves into logistics robotics
Manitou has formed a strategic partnership with robotics solutions specialist Effidence to co-develop and market a range of logistics robots.
Based in Romagnat, on the south side of Clermont Ferrand in central France, Effidence has been developing collaborative and autonomous robotic carts since 2016. It is also a pioneer in ‘follow-me’ technology with the EffiBOT, that is optimised for manual order picking and moving bins or boxes.

The EffiBOT is already in use with major third party logistics operators such as DHL, as well as with car manufacturers such as Renault, Volvo and BMW. The video below shows how they are used by DHL;
Manitou’s dealers will distribute Effidence robotic carts, while the two companies will also co-develop a new range of autonomous warehousing equipment, including stackers and industrial tractors. These will be assembled by Manitou subsidiary LMH Solutions in Beaupréau - south of Manitou’s base in Ancenis. The stackers will have a capacity of between one and 2.5 tonnes and will be serviced by Manitou's network of technicians.
Effidence founder and chief executive, Cédric Tessier, said: “With EffiBOT, we have demonstrated that robotics can offer a much simpler method for conveying goods. Our robots are real productivity tools for Industry 4.0 that safety coexist with operators. In order to expand our range of robots, we have decided to partner with Manitou, as an industrial partner with real expertise in warehousing.”
LMH Solutions chief executive, Sylvain Jaguelin, added: “We are driven to continuously innovate to accelerate automation in logistics centres and industry. With the technology developed by Effidence, we will be able to offer our customers intelligent, powerful, and fully integrated solutions that are able to meet the challenges of logistics and Industry 4.0. These new solutions are a perfect embodiment of our day-to-day mission to improve working conditions, safety, and performance - everywhere in the world - while protecting humans and their environment.”
