A bridge launching crane collapsed onto the road below yesterday in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, killing three construction workers , while trapping and seriously injuring a passing motorist.
The crane was building an elevated section of the Sungai Besi-Ulu Klang Expressway (SUKE) when something went wrong and the crane dropped with a large section breaking off and dropping to the ground. We understand that the men who died, all from China, were on the crane when it gave way and at least two of them fell the 35 metres to the road below.
This is the second incident on the project so far this year. Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, the minister responsible, has ordered an immediate stop to work at the site while investigators ascertain what went wrong.
