six injured in two crane incident

A tower crane dropped a load of rebar onto six men at a site in Miami yesterday.

The incident happened in Brickell Plaza on the site of office building which when completed will be the second tallest tower in Miami. It seems that the bundle began to break apart and then dropped from around three metres above the third level deck where the injured men were working.

Miami Fire & Rescue said that six men were initially trapped, but two were seriously injured having been impaled by the rebar. All six were taken to the trauma centre of a local hospital, where they were listed from serious to critical.

The crane was owned and operated by Morrow, contracted to G&E Florida Contractors working for general contractor Civic Construction.

The investigation into what went wrong is continuing.,
