US crane rental group All Erection and Crane Rental has taken delivery of a 700 tonne (770 ton) Liebherr LTM 1650-8.1 All Terrain crane, part of a larger order placed with Liebherr earlier this year - see: 21 AT Liebherrs for ALL.
Dubbed the ‘Blue Beast’, the eight axle LTM 1650-8.1 has been supplied with both the 54 and 80 metre main booms, a six to 92 fixed jib and Liebherr’s Y-guying system. Features include the company’s single engine concept along with its VarioBallast and VarioBase technologies.
Its first job was to help install a boiler room plus six large air handling systems at the Veterans Administration hospital in Cleveland, Ohio. Set up on the road with 22 metres of main boom and 87 metres of luffing jib, the crane lifted each nine metre long units, weighing seven tonnes, over the hospital entrance building, to place them on the roof to the rear.
Brian Meek, All Crane equipment specialist, said: “This lift is a perfect showcase for the capabilities of the LTM 1650-8.1. It has the footprint of a 500 tonne crane and packs the punch of a 700 tonne crane. I’ve never seen a large crane built this efficiently. Its assembly is much smoother than even a typical 600 tonne crane, which will save money on set-up for customers in the long run. I’m excited to see what doors this crane will open to new kinds of jobs.”
