When it's only one

Ireland’s O’Sullivan Crane Hire has only one crane, so choosing the right one to replace it is uber critical, with the new one needing to be both versatile and totally reliable.

Based in Mallow, Co. Cork, the company decided to replace its aging 40 tonne Liebherr All Terrain with a new 40 tonne Liebherr, in the form of the LTM 1040-2.1.
The two axle crane has a four section, 35 metre main boom which can handle 7.4 tonnes at full extension or take 1.1 tonnes out to its maximum radius of 31 metres. A 9.5 metre swingaway extension takes the maximum tip height to almost 44 metres.

The crane can travel in Ireland with its full 6.5 tonnes of counterweight or meet 12 tonne axle loads with the 1.5 tonne fixed counterweight. The new crane features Stage V diesel power, Liebherr’s VarioBase automatic variable outrigger set-up system and a remote controller that operates all superstructure functions.

Managing director Martin O’Sullivan said: “The decision to replace the old crane with another Liebherr was based on the long term performance of the old model and a strong relationship with the Liebherr team in Ireland.”
