AER acquires Chippindale

Irish /UK rental group AER Rents - part of Ireland’s O’Flaherty Holdings group - has acquired Chippindale Plant from the Chippindale family.

Chippindale Plant was established in 1949 by Wilfred Chippindale, who opened his first proper depot in Leeds the following year. Today it operates from eight locations - Leeds, Catterick, Huddersfield, Keighley, Manchester, Newcastle, Sheffield and York. It is managed by the third generation of the family and has around 120 employees. Nigel and Peter Chippindale will continue to manage the business as joint managing directors.

The Chippindale fleet includes a full range of telehandlers, a few trailer lifts and low level scaffold towers along with a wide range of general rental equipment and tools. The company had revenues for the year to April 2021 of £19.5 million, with a pre-tax profit of almost £2.2 million. It reported total assets in the region of £28 million and a tangible net worth of £11.3 million.

The statement issued by AER said: “We are very excited to welcome the team at Chippindale Plant Ltd into the group. Chippindale Plant has a rich heritage stretching back over 70 years and are the leading independent provider of construction equipment in the North of England. Headquartered in Leeds, with eight depots spanning from Manchester, across to Sheffield and up to Newcastle in the North East, Chippindale hire and sell a wide range of plant, tools, excavator attachments and site accommodation.”

“The acquisition of Chippindale Plant alongside our existing businesses Mr. Plant Hire, Mainline Group, Drogheda Hire & Sales & Welfare 4 Hire now gives AER Rents a significant reach across much of the UK and Ireland.”

Vertikal Comment

This is a major move by AER which will take it in to another league in terms of size and market coverage, possibly doubling its revenues and more than doubling its profits.
