Straddle carriers for Tropical

US port operator Tropical Shipping has purchased three Kalmar diesel-electric straddle carriers for its facility in Florida.

The order includes a specially modified unit to run on rails for use at the company’s intermodal facility in the Port of Palm Beach. The company specialises in shipments to and from the east coast to ports in the Caribbean and Bahamas. Deliveries will take place over the next 12 to 14 months.

An earlier delivery of a Tropical straddle carrier

Tim DiPietropolo of Tropical Shipping said: “Kalmar’s direct support team for straddle carriers has been excellent from the start and we value their continued partnership with our local team. The new diesel-electric straddle carriers will play an important role in helping us reduce both fuel and maintenance costs while also helping to reduce CO2 emissions at our terminal.”
