Tree trimming fatality

A man died after falling around six metres from a work platform on Tuesday, while trimming trees in Huntington Station on Long Island, New York.

The man, identified as Edis Rene Maldonado, 40, was an employee of ARS Corp Services, a company that specialises in pruning and trimming trees along railway tracks and utility lines etc... The company was working as a subcontractor for the electrical utility company PSEG Long Island. He was working from a truck mounted platform/bucket truck on a street in the town and, we assume, was not wearing a harness when he fell. We have been unable to confirm any further details due to a lack of photographs or definitive and specific information.

Maldonado was rushed to hospital but pronounced dead on arrival. Inspectors from OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) responded to the scene and is investigating the incident.
ARS Chief executive John McCarthy released the following statement: “Team, we suffered a tragic loss yesterday from a safety accident which took the life of Edis Rene Maldonado who was one of our most dedicated and trusted team members. Our prayers and condolences go out to the Maldonado family during this time of loss. Edis will be remembered for his many years of outstanding service and close friendships with everyone who knew him. Please take some time to pause today and be thankful for your loved ones and honour the memory of Edis.”
