Manitowoc to go direct in Colorado, Wyoming, and Nebraska

Manitowoc has acquired some of the crane rental and distribution assets of its long-time dealer Honnen Equipment Company.

The transaction has been made thought Manitowoc’s wholly owned sales and service subsidiary, MGX Equipment Services. The deal includes the acquisition of 'certain crane rental fleet assets'. As part of the deal, Honnen has relinquished its dealer agreements with Manitowoc in Colorado, Wyoming, and Nebraska, with Manitowoc now serving this territory directly.

The announcement said: “The transaction expands Manitowoc’s direct-to-customer footprint in the territory with new sales, used sales, aftermarket parts, and service support to a variety of end market customers.”

MGX currently operates from 11 locations, Baltimore-Maryland, Baton Rouge and Belle Chasse-Louisiana, Salt Lake City-Utah, Phoenix-Arizona, Birmingham-Alabama, Dallas and Houston in Texas, Norfolk-Virginia, Winston-Salem-North Carolina and Billings-Montana.

Manitowoc says that the MGX team based at its 'flagship' Salt Lake City, Utah location will initially support customers in the new three state territory, as it explores opportunities to add branch service locations and team members within Colorado, Wyoming, and Nebraska.

MGX Salt Lake City branch manager Leon Cornaby said: “Our offering extends to crane remanufacturing and providing operator training and certification, which will give customers in the region a more comprehensive support program around crane ownership and operation. Minutes matter when your machinery is unavailable, so whether customers are making use of our on-call 24/7 team of factory-trained technicians, or renting cranes from our diverse fleet, we will help support their productivity and profitability goals.”

Honen Equipment - or Pete Honen Equipment as it was - was established in Commerce City/Denver in 1963 as a John Deere dealer, and took on the Grove crane line in 1970, making it one of the manufacturer’s longest serving dealers. It added National Crane boom trucks in 1985 and Manitowoc crawler cranes in 1985. Honen will now focus on its John Deere dealership and rental business as well as the other non-crane product lines it handles which includes JLG telehandlers.
