Dutch Unplugged

Dutch crane and telehandler rental company Bultena Verhuur has taken delivery of the first 160 tonne Liebherr LR 1160.1 Unplugged battery powered crawler crane to arrive in the Netherlands. An official hand over ceremony was conducted at Bauma, but the crane has now arrived.

Bultena was established in 1990 in the north of the country to offer telehandler rental, especially 360 degree models which were beginning to catch on at the time. It now operates an extensive fleet of machines from Manitou, Merlo and Magni with straight frames from Faresin, JCB, and Sennebogen. It has also found an increasingly popular niche in the market, offering operators with its telehandlers and currently employs 100 full trained operators. Since 2013 the company has been looking to shift more of its fleet towards zero emission which has included the addition of Faresin Full Electric telehandlers and the electric power packs for some of Manitou’s 360 degree models.

In 2018 it acquired crane rental company Karen van Oorschot Kranen taking it into the crane market and adding a new location further south. The following year the company purchased 360 degree telehandler rental company Tillemans Verhuur from founders Jos and Till Tillermans who were retiring. This provided a location in Mil south of Nijmegen. Today the company operates from four locations and seeks to cover the entire Benelux region.

Owner Erik Jansen said: “The Unplugged crawler crane hits the right note for the future, especially in the noise sensitive regions we operate in and will find favour with both site workers and local residents.
