Fatal crane accident at mine

A 49 year old man was crushed under a 20 tonne crane yesterday at Minorca Mining’s Laurentian pit in Gilbert, Minnesota.

Emergency services from Virginia and Gilbert extricated the man and performed life support and resuscitation on him, but he was pronounced dead on arrival at the Virginia Regional Medical Center.

Minorca Mines is owned my Mittal Steel. The federal Mine Safety and Health Administration will be investigating.
