US rental company Sims Crane & Equipment has added a 250 tonne battery powered Liebherr LR 1250.1 Unplugged to its fleet, the first Unplugged model to be sold on the US East Coast.
Sims ordered the crane with 73 metres of boom, 94 metres of luffing jib and auxiliary boom nose, the company already runs regular Liebherr LR 1250.1s, as well as the 300 tonne LR 1300 SX. The new crane offers identical performance to the conventional model.
The battery can last up to eight hours, depending on the application and can also operate while plugged into a power outlet. Sims says that it will use the new crane on jobs such as amusement parks, hospitals and residential areas.
Jackson Sims said: “We are honoured to partner with Liebherr and be on the forefront to serve a vastly growing need for alternative energy within our growing customer base.”
Sims was founded by Thomas Sims in 1959, he purchased his first mobile crane, a Bucyrus Erie H-5 truck crane, in 1961. The company is now managed and owned by the third generation of the Sims family and operates from 13 locations throughout Florida.
