Wolffkran has launched a new 224 tonne/metre flat top tower crane - the Wolff 6523 - with a maximum capacity of 12.5 tonnes in four fall at a radius of 21.5 metres or 8.5 tonnes on two falls at up to a 30 metre radius.
The jib can be extended from 30 to 65 metres in 2.5 metre increments. Jib tip capacity at 65 metres is 2.3 tonnes or 2.5 tonnes with the ‘Wolff Boost’ function activated. The crane comes with a combined UV 20/TV 20 tower connection allowing it to be mounted on a two metre square tower to a freestanding height of 69 metres, or 106 metres on a 2.9 metre square tower.

The new jib design features a bottom chord connection, the jib sections, including the rope swivel traverse, are mounted on the front with a mandrel and wedge connection. In turn, in the top chord, the pins are now inserted into the pear shaped holes, which leads to easier assembly without a hammer.

The new 6523 is based on the 6031 Clear, which is one of Wolffkran’s bestselling cranes. The new flat top has a new jib design and is the first crane to feature Wolff’s new High Speed Positioning System (HiSPS), which takes data from sensors on the trolley and the hook block that pick up any movements and speed, feeding the information into the central control unit, which responds by automatically adjusting the two functions to eliminate load swing. The company says that not only does this make an inexperienced operator better but eliminates wind impact and prevents a diagonal pull on the load, making it safer for anyone on a tag line. The HiSPS feature is optional and must be specified before delivery.

The new crane is equipped with a 45kW hoist winch it can also be specified with Wolff’s new plastic coated fibre rope - ‘ChaRope’, rather than the standard steel rope. The cab and switch cabinet are located on the driver’s cab station, which is connected to the rotating frame, making assembly easier. The crane can be transported on four trucks or in five containers.

A version of the new crane with a maximum capacity of 10.5 tonnes in two fall operation as well as a North American version are planned.
Head of product management and business development Mohamed Abouelezz said: “This new development also provides advantages during crane operation. Thanks to the smooth jib transitions, trolleys equipped with lateral guide rollers run more steadily and smoothly along the jib. This makes it easier to finely position the load, even without using the High Speed Positioning System.”
