Mateco takes Maltech

International rental group Mateco has acquired the Swiss sales and rental group Maltech Holding, which includes the rental business Maltech and distribution company Skyworker Trade. The transaction is an all share purchase deal from the Hunziger family.

Maltech chief executive Patrick Moser and his management team will remain on board and continue to run the business under Mateco ownership.
The deal is signed (L-R) Eric Hunziker of Maltech, with Pascal Vanhalst of Mateco and Marc Hunziker of Maltech

Maltech operates from 14 locations along with more than 35 rental agent locations spread across Switzerland with a large fleet of self-drive truck mounts in addition to big truck mounts, boom and scissor lifts as well as spider lifts.
Skyworker Trade is the CTE and Magni distributor, but also sells and services Multitel and Teupen products along with other brands.

The Mateco statement said: “This acquisition represents the next step in our long term growth strategy, which aims to sustainably strengthen our position in selected markets. With Maltech we are acquiring a company that is already a market leader in Switzerland with 130 employees, over 700 rental units in its fleet with a history spanning over 50 years.”

Mateco owner Pascal Vanhalst said: “I am extremely pleased that we can join forces with Maltech in the exciting Swiss market and continue to operate successfully. We are an owner managed, internationally active group that can offer Maltech many opportunities. I particularly welcome all employees of Maltech and Skyworker Trade and look forward to working together."

Maltech chairman Eric Hunziker added: “My brother Marc and I have known Pascal for a long time and have great respect for his life’s work. We are convinced that Maltech and Skyworker Trade are in good hands and can take a secure path into the future.”
Maltech was established by Armin Hunziker as a Zurich based commercial painting company in 1966, adding platforms in 1971 to meet its own demands, renting them to third parties as Hunziger Hebebühnen, fully adopting the Maltech name for its rental activities in 2006.

You could say that the Maltech name is coming home, in that it was Mateco’s original name when it was established in Stuttgart by Hans Peter Kauderer who opened Maltech branches in Switzerland before withdrawing to its home market before expanding to other markets, and later rebranding as Mateco. It was acquired by private equity firm Odewald & Compagnie in 2006, and in late 2012 after having made several acquisitions was sold to TVH. The TVH parts and rental businesses were separated in 2021 with Vanhalst family (the VH in TVH) represented by Pascal Vanhalst taking the rental business, most of which trades under the Mateco banner.
